4 out of 5 stars Card Game Review   August 13, 2008
The decks are balanced, fun, simple and it's a cheap way to play MTG. 4 stars overall.

4 out of 5 stars Good for Beginners   May 10, 2008
This is a good introduction to the game of Magic the Gathering. The bad news is that these theme decks don't include the rules of the game, which are available as a free download from magicthegathering.com. However, unlike the Starter Game, you end up with five different AND PLAYABLE decks. From these decks, you'll begin to understand the differences between the colors. You'll understand that green is full of really large and powerful monsters, while blue likes to grab control over card draws.

If you continue to play Magic the Gathering, you'll end up buying lots of booster packs or buying individual cards from card dealers (either in person or online). And eventually you'll outgrow these cards. But for the beginning, this is not a bad place to start.

If you are just starting out, this is the perfect buy for you. It's the latest addition set from Magic the Gathering and it gives you everything you need to start out, minus the instructions which can be found online. You get land cards of every color, and even some rares.

3 out of 5 stars An Expensive Introduction to a Marvelous Game   February 28, 2008

For the same amount of money you are spending on these decks at full retail, you could buy a couple thousand magic cards from a card store. Keep in mind these decks are 40 cards each, only come with two 'rare' cards each. For the same price per deck, buying 3 booster packs at full retail gives 3 rares. Additionally, normal magic the gathering decks are 60 cards each, so playing the 'normal' game you'd have to get more cards somehow or mash two of the decks together.

Overall, if you really want to learn Magic the Gathering, go down to your local comic or card store, and ask the cashier about learning how to play. They'll probably tell you about regular tournaments, but if you mention you have money to spend, they may arrange a tutorial. Magic the Gathering is a great intellectual fantasy game. The secondary market value of the cards inside these decks is very low, so be warned.

4 out of 5 stars 40 cards   February 11, 2008
this is an okay set if your new to magic, but otherwise stay clear of this set.there are 40 cards to a deck, the idiea is you combine two of the decks to make an 80 card deck, but then you have one problem.....you have 40 cards left over, not enough to make a deck.this product is at least decent.in my opinion youd be better off buying the saviors of kamigawa set of 4 theme decks.
